About

In addition to her academic appointment, Shelley Blozis is an affiliated faculty member in the Center for Mind and Brain. She serves as a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Psychometric Society, the American Statistical Association, the American Educational Research Association, the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society. She currently serves as consulting editor for Psychological Methods and associate editor of the Dictionary of Statistics and Research Methods in Psychology for the American Psychological Association. 

Research Focus

Statistical procedures commonly applied to behavioral data fall under a general statistical framework, based on the means, variances and co-variances of data. Professor Blozis’ research concerns extensions and applications of this general framework to the study of clustered, repeated measures and longitudinal data. In addition to methodological work, she has developed a program of research based on health and social psychology. This has generated a line of research in collaboration with colleagues working in areas such as adolescent health, well-being, chronic illness, and drug and alcohol use, as well as health education and preventative medicine, health psychology, animal behavior and nursing.

Teaching

Professor Blozis teaches in the areas of modeling and statistical analysis. She has recently taught courses in Multilevel Models, Advanced Statistical Inference, Statistical Analysis, and Statistical Analysis of Psychological Data.

Awards

Professor Blozis has received a number of awards throughout her career. In 2004, she received Faculty Travel Awards from the University of California, Davis, and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. In 1999, she won the Faculty Research Award from the University Research Institute at The University of Texas at Austin and a Travel Award from the Institute for Science Education in Kiel, Germany. She has also been awarded grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the National Institutes of Health.
